The 'macchia mediterranea' (literally mediterranean spot) is a term referring to all typical plants, usually shrubs and bushes. Is made of plants as Juniper, Oregano and others. Plants of this kind are able to survive to very hot summer and a lack of water.

The "macchia mediterranea" is a very distinctive characters of Cinque Terre. In those pages I have collected some shot on this argument. First picture with cliff covered by green is the first example.
At left, another nice example of cinque terre view. The cactus and the agaves, sea in the back makes this picture a beautiful postcard.
Another picture shooted inside the Natural Park of Cinque Terre.
On the back you can see "Punta Mesco", the sea is slightly moved. On foreground a flowered agave.
